Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"We had Christmas dinner at the Rock and Fountain in Langstone. On arrival, we had to wait quite a while to be seated, as there were a lot of people waiting. Our table was on the second floor and was set for 10 people. Unfortunately, the table itself was extremely low, so low that people had to lift their bowls while eating to avoid spilling food, which made the meal uncomfortable. The food itself was good, but the service was slow. One member of our party didn’t receive his dinner until the rest of us were already halfway through ours, which was disappointing on Christmas Day. There was also some confusion over the drinks bill, as we were told we still owed money even though it had already been settled at the bar. Overall, there wasn’t much of a Christmas atmosphere, and it didn’t feel like a special Christmas dinner experience. At £100 per person, we expected more. Would we go again for Christmas dinner? No, probably not. However, we would consider eating at the restaurant another time outside of a special occasion."
"We stayed overnight in our motorhome courtesy of the owners which we very much appreciated - thank you. We enjoyed a lovely evening in the pub which judging by how busy it was is a very popular place indeed. The Butty Bach is an excellent pint so worth a try. But this is definitely a dining pub and there is little space for propping the bar up although there were a couple of locals doing just that. Despite the pub heaving with customers the staff were unfailingly cheerful and helpful despite the obvious pressure they were under to serve copious volumes of food and drinks. We opted for the two courses for £19.50 menu which had plenty of choices. We both decided on the fish and chips for our main course and here is my only criticism -the batter was oozing oil which made it quite unpalatable. So I picked it all off and just ate the fish which was fine. Apart from that the starters (and dessert we added) were very good. The million dollar question is would I return to the R&F - most definitely and if you try it I am sure you will enjoy the experience"
"I took a friend for a birthday and had a lovely meal, the gammon was very thick and plenty of it, served with pineapple and egg if you wish. Our server Alison was very attentive and helpful. We didn’t feel rushed and had a lovely couple of hours catching up. Would highly recommend lunch."
"Had the best roast dinner on Sunday with my family. Servers were so wonderful! The food was delicious, we all agreed that every dish was amazing! And dog friendly as well! It was my 30th birthday and the Rock and Fountain made it so special. Beautiful building Thank you x"
"I hired a table in the library as a surprise for my parents' 65th Wedding Anniversary. The room is lovely and I was able to put up banners, balloons and decorate the table. All the food was amazing, perfectly cooked and hot. We all said it was one of the best meals we have had. The staff who served us were Paige, Caitlin and Cerys. They were really helpful, friendly and happy. I highly recommend this restaurant for the excellent food and staff"
"If you're looking for a historic, beautiful & quality place to dine for a special occasion or simply get an excellent meal, look no further. The Rock & Fountain have something completely beautiful, a historic, gorgeous building and courtyard with the unbelievably delicious food and amazingly friendly staff who are more than happy to help seeing you right to your table, all the way to wishing you a safe journey home. A truly unique and special experience awaits as soon as you enter the characteristic building that boasts history, delicate charm and comfortable dining. The kitchen staff are evidently highly trained with a dedication to delivering the best quality and delicious food they can but don’t take my word for it, allow yourself to be immersed in the passion they put into their craft. At an affordable and fair price, you can guarantee not to be disappointed. The Rock and Fountain is not to be missed for a truly wonderful gastronomic experience."
"Recently went for Sunday lunch with the family, excellent service from Alison who greeted us and welcomed us to the pub- her service was second to none, just genuinely relaxed and polite, there to answer any questions. Alison answered questions about dietary requirements for one of the people in our group, and even made sure we got the best of the Sunday lunch deal, recommended we take a pudding home. Great Sunday roast, plenty of fresh vegetables and great servicing of meat, massive Yorkshire puddings topped off by puddings made of dreams! If you like a good Sunday roast, for a fair price with excellent service, and even welcome dogs in areas of the bar, look no further. Don’t waste your time going to a certain place the roast calls home, support local, go here eat better food and have a better time!"
"We recently visited for Sunday Lunch and were blown away by the quality of the good and service. Just a really, really lovely place for a roast. Loads of parking, loads of seating and really easy to access. Can't wait to come back for more food soon!"
